Rio releases SEN magazine 2015

Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Neiphiu Rio formally released Save Environment Network (SEN) Dimapur first edition annual magazine 2015, Wednesday at Dimapur.
Speaking at a brief launching programme, Rio said that timber issue has become very serious particularly in Nagaland. He said that for a long time the Supreme Court had banned the timber trade. However with the recent relaxation by SC for plantation management, he said that timbers have been going out of the state without proper regulation and which he said needed to be checked.
On conservation, Rio encouraged the practice of owning community forest which has been in practice. He said this can be done as the land belongs to the people.
Expressing concern over global warming, the MP asked the people to preserve the environment saying “mother earth can provide our needs not our greed”.
Stating that though Naga society is educated it is still young and immature, he urged the people to come forward to conserve the natural resources for our own benefit.
Rio also discouraged usage of plastic bags and asked every individual especially the business community to cooperate and also encourage public to use alternative carry bags.
It may be noted that Save Environment Network (SEN) was formed on January 13, 2014 by a group of young likeminded people. The vision of SEN was to bring about considerable change on current environmental issues and problems by undertaking various activities besides propagating environmental education through a bi-monthly publication.
