Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mon organized “Kisan Gosthi” on September 22, at Longching Village.
At the programme, veterinary and animal husbandry, scientist, Dr. Paihem Michui discussed on scientific rearing and disease management in livestock including poultry, importance of routinely de-worming and vaccination programme.
In the technical session, participants were divided into three groups in which soil conservation scientist discussed on application of liming on the field, construction of low cost water harvesting structure (Jalkund), production and applying of vermi-compost, importance of contour and strip cropping. Plant breeding, scientist highlighted on the conservation of seeds, nursery raising, planting method and time of sowing of various winter vegetable crops, production and management of different field crops as well as cash crops.
During the interactive session, farmers raised various questions on pest infestation on jhum field, soil health, production and conservation of seeds, nursery raising, piglets, poultry and dog etc.
The scientists diagnosed those mentioned problems faced by the farmers and intervened accordingly. Seeds, pesticides and other critical inputs were distributed among the farmers.
Altogether 105 participants from different village level institutions including church leaders, student union, village council, village guard, women church leaders and SHGs attended the programme.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by KVK, Mon Sr. scientist-cum-head Dr. Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu, welcome speech was delivered by village council chairman, E. Panteang, keynote address by GPB scientist Dr. M. S. Sachan and vote of thanks by soil conservation scientist Imtinuksung.
