Two-day screening camp for blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index (BMI) was organised by department of health and family welfare at Kohima and directorate of health and family welfare respectively on September 28 and 29, in observance of World Heart Day (September 29).
The theme of World Heart Day “heart-healthy environment” was focused on the aim to raise awareness about prevention of lifestyle diseases, especially on risk factors of heart and stroke. The camp was mainly targeted towards office goers who form the major part of the lifestyle diseases population.

Some of the people suspected with hypertension and diabetes were referred to health centres for further check up and were also advised to keep a check on BP, blood sugar and maintain normal body weight with lifestyle changes for prevention of non-communicable diseases.
The screening camp was carried out with participation of the staff of Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Urban PHC, Seikhazou, Kohima and NCD Clinic, NHAK. Leaflets on cancer, stroke, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and handouts on the key messages of World Heart Day were distributed to the public and general information on the risk factors of lifestyle diseases was provided. Posters were also displayed highlighting the risk factors of lifestyle diseases. Altogether 474 healthy office goers came and availed the services provided during the two-day screening camp.
