
Along with the rest of the nation, Zunheboto also observed “Nationwide Sanitation Campaign and Rally” with Superintendent of Police Zunheboto Krodi Rhetso as the chief guest at Town Hall Zunheboto, Saturday.
Exhorting the gathering, mostly students and youth, the chief guest stressed on the environment issues and natural resources. While quoting various examples of mother nature/earth he stressed on three Rs: Reuse, Recycle and Reduce.
He briefly spoke on the World Environment Day observed each year on June 5 and also highlighted the ongoing worldwide awareness on environmental issues campaign by Pope Francis.
Rhetso also offered various tips to organize or set up committee on sanitations such as “colony sanitation board”, community sanitation stewards/volunteers etc.
One of the resource persons, SDO PHED Er. G Mughalu, stressed on “solid and liquid waste management” and also exhorted on the basic sanitation issues, liquid waste management.
He pointed out that the sanitation starts from the grassroot level and also also warned on the depletion of ozone layers which he said was the direct result of human mismanagement of the environment and Mother Nature.
Another resource person consultant ICE Kiyeshe briefly spoke on the basic sanitation issues and its consequences. He also highlighted the various diseases caused by poor sanitation and drainages such as skin diseases/infections, intestine and other vital organs etc.
Earlier the programme was chaired by ZTYO spokesman Er. Mughalu Sumi while ZTYO member media cell Vinoka Rotokha recorded the proceedings and invocation was said by assistant pastor SBCZ Inato K Yeptho.
Introduction and presentation was administered by Vinoka Rotokha while Unice G, finalist Sümi Singing Star-1 enthralled the gathering with a very special song. Vote of thanks was delivered by ZTYO vice president, Oketo Z Chishi and benediction by Elibo H Kiba.
Painting and Essay writing competition was also held wherein students from most the schools in Zunheboto town participated. The judges of the event were: Sasuli Chishi, Alivis Chiqhe , Sekholu Chishi, Vinoka K. Rotokha, Caroline Chishi and Holuto Aye.
After the culmination of formal programme, students, ZTYO volunteers, PHED department officials and several others walked from Town Hall to Center Point holding placards and cleaning the wastes alongside the road/highway stretching around 2 miles.
The event was organised by the ZTYO under the aegis and sponsorship of WSSO, PHED Government of Nagaland.
