Tohanba highlights duties of civic bodies

Parliamentary Secretary for Municipal Affairs R. Tohanba has emphasised on the importance of local bodies’ role along with its functions and responsibilities in delivering basic urban facilities during his interaction with Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) its conference hall, Wednesday.
In the meeting, Tohanba challenged KMC to lead the local bodies in all front with more dedication and perseverance.  He also lauded the pioneers, under whose initiative and concern Kohima local body was formed.
He appreciated the efforts of KMC in continuing with the same zeal and vision by initiating in various field, particularly in the management of solid waste management and assured all possible help from his end and department of municipal affairs.
Tohanba also assured to take up immediate issues on priority with both state and central government for the betterment of all the ULBs in the state and reiterated that more local bodies need to be added in due course of time for delivering essential services to the general public in the state.
A power point presentation was given by KMC on the activities & functions and the grievances faced by KMC & local bodies in executing their day to day functions.
KMC appealed both the public and state government, especially the concern in charge parliamentary secretary and directorate of municipal affairs department on financial aspects and devolutions of powers and functionaries under 12TH schedule as per the Indian constitution to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the state in general for providing better urban facilities to its citizen in their respective local bodies.
Additional Director (HoD) of Municipal Affairs directorate Dr. Toshimanen Ozukum and deputy commissioner, Kohima Rovilato Mor also spoke in the meeting. The meeting was chaired by administrator KMC Kovi Meyase and was also attended by parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports, Music Task Force & Chairman DPDB, Kohima Khriehu Liezietsu, other department officials and KMC members.
