Youth Association of Nagaland (YAN) has vehemently condemned the “heinous crime” perpetrated by 23 Assam Rifles on August 28 at Pangsha, Tuensang district.
In a release, Youth Association of Nagaland president, V.Hetoi Chishi and spokesperson, Alise Sangtam said the group of unarmed people travelling on that fateful day could have been apprehended for interrogation rather than “resort to blatant firing resulting in the killing and injuring of innocent civilians”.
Youth Association of Nagaland said at this current situation when mass based Naga NGOs were trying to bring all Naga Political Groups (NPGs) into the line, with the recent signing of the “Framework Accord”, it was expedient on the part of Naga Political Groups as well as Indian security forces to restrain from direct arms confrontations, to ensure seriousness and sincerity towards peaceful dialogue.
While asserting that Nagas have every right to safeguard its people and land, the Indian security personnel deployed in the Naga inhabited areas were expected to respect the sentiment of the people, stated Youth Association of Nagaland.
It further appealed the NSCN (K) to “reconsider its rigid stance from abrogating Cease Fire with the Government of India” so as to emulate all means for peaceful and reasonable political dialogue through initiatives from the mass based Naga NGOs.
Youth Association of Nagaland further conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
WNSU: Wolam Nyukyan Students’ Union (WNSU) has strongly condemned the August 28 incident at ITC Dan village, wherein innocent civilians were killed and injured by the military force.
In a release, Wolam Nyukyan Students’ Union president said the incident was “abhorrent and vindictive ferocity” to create discord and distrust among the general public.
The union said it failed to understand “the converse ideology between the ongoing peace-making policy by the Government of India at the centre and the act of oblivious scene created by military force”.
Wolam Nyukyan Students’ Union further pointed out that no such act could be tolerated or appreciated at this juncture of solution and peacemaking. It further, extended condolences to the bereaved family members.
