Days before May 31, speculations were rife about which of the two candidates– Tokheho Yepthomi (NDPP/PDA) and C. Apok Jamir (NPF)– will win the contest.
As per indications, the voting trend in three Central Nagaland districts– Mokokchung, Wokha and Zunheboto– went largely in favour of NDPP/PDA. NDPP source believe that the trend will ensure comfortable win for Tokheho.
Sources said majority votes in Kohima district largely went for NDPP/PDA while Phek went strongly for NPF. By and large, NPF was marginally ahead in ENPO areas including Tseminyu and Peren districts NPF sources said.
Analysts also opined that Dimapur might be the decider. They said NPF needed to win by a very huge margin if it is to overtake NDPP’s massive margins in Central Nagaland areas. However, even if NPF managed a slim margin in Dimapur, that will not be enough to stop NDPP from winning the race.
