
Minister for PHED Tokheho Yepthomi conducted a field visit at the various implementation sites of the project-augmentation of water supply to Kohima town by pumping from Zaru (Dzüü River) source Kohima, Tuesday.
The project that involved two stages pumping with an estimated cost Rs 46 crore was taken up by the department since 2012 after other options could not be materialized due to water source related disputes. On completion, the project is expected to provide an additional supply of 3.8 million litres per day.
During the visit, it was found that various items of civil constructions, electrical and pumping unit installations including the work items at the 2nd stage pumping site and pressure break point at Kigwema village were near completion.
Chief engineer Er Kevisekho Kruse informed media persons that the minister has personally taken stock of the up to date work progress. He said the minister will be taking up the matter with the government for early release of the required funds to complete the project as early as possible.
Er. Kruse said if this project is completed it would bring early relief to residents of State capital, suffering due to scarcity of drinking water, especially during lean period.
The minister was accompanied by parliamentary secretary IPR Khekaho, secretary Anenla S. Longchari IAS, chief engineer Er Kevisekho Kruse, contractor Vilelie Khamo and a host of officers from the department and public leaders.
