
Zhuikhu Students’ Union (ZKK) celebrated its golden jubilee on the theme, “Liberty” at its village ground on Thursday.
The celebration was graced by secretary Land Resources and Finance department, Y. Kikheto Sema, as the chief guest.
Speaking on the jubilee theme, the chief guest encouraged the students to liberate themselves from the bondage of selfishness, dishonesty, corruption, laziness and all sort of social menaces. He also urged the students to inherit the trait of their forefathers with regard to respect for elders, hardworking nature and honesty.
Kikheto also said that jubilee was not only an occasion to forgive and forget each other’s misdeeds but to cherish the past and to claim the future. In this regard, he said it was easy to forgive but hard to forget since others’ misdeeds remain in one’s mind and heart for long.
Also, speaking on the clean election campaign, Kikheto said that even before polls were announced the public had started troubling intending candidates for various reasons. “With such behaviour how can we expect clean election to be successful? We should all change individually first,” he added.
He further reminded the gathering that clean election did not mean only for Assembly polls but should begin from election of Church leaders, student leaders, NGOs etc.
Western Sumi Students’ Union, president, Nito Achumi also exhorted the gathering.
Highlights of the celebration included cultural performances by Khaibung Students’ Union, Hekheshe Students’ Union and others.
EDSSU: East Dimapur Sumi Students (EDSSU) celebrated its silver jubilee Thursday, at East Dimapur Sumi Baptist church, Purana Bazaar under the theme “Redefining generation”.
Focussing on the theme, secretary finance department and LRD, Kikheto Y Sema (IAS) as speaker of the programme said redefining a generation would mean changing oneself in every means from bad to good. “Change in dress, fashion, mobile phones etc only do not constitute change but the real change should be positive in one’s attitude, mannerisms, love and respect for one another,” he added.
Kikheto also called upon the Nagas irrespective of their geographical locations and community to remain as one emotionally and support each other. “Nagas are a small group of people and we should not disintegrate amongst ourselves but remain strongly bonded in all means possible,” he said.
He also described the political crisis that had enveloped the tenure of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly as “most unfortunate” and added that every individual should be held responsible for the mess instead of blaming only the politicians. On the issue of illegal immigrants, the secretary said Nagas should start working for and by themselves and that the work culture would eventually space out illegal immigrants. He also called for a stop to infighting or cold war among different Christian denominations as the believers were all worshipping one God.
Western Sumi Students’ Union, president, Nito Achumi also addressed the gathering. The celebration programme would culminate on December 29.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by EDSSU ex-president Dr. Hitoka H. Achumi, invocation prayer was pronounced by NCRC Sumi pastor, Rev. Shiwoto Assumi, welcome speech by ex-president Solomon L. Awomi, hoisting of flag by EDSSU president Kanato S. Awomi, EDSSU history was delivered by ex-president EDSSU, Avishe Zhimo and special number by jubilee choir. Later, jubilee blessing prayer for executive members was pronounced by EDSBC, purana bazar associate pastor Yekuto Shohe and benediction prayer was pronounced by EDSBC, purana bazar assistant pastor Hukato Achumi. Crayon Club Kumlong: Crayon club, Kumlong (CCK) ward Mokokchung celebrated its 25th anniversary under the theme, “reviviscence” at its treasurer’s residence, Kumlong Ward on December 22.
A press release by general secretary Crayon Club, Maongtemjen Kichu, while speaking at the programme, assistant professor Fazl Ali College, Tiatemsu Mollier congratulated the club on achieving 25 years of existence. While dwelling on the theme, Tiatemsu encouraged the club members to continue their yeomen service towards good of the society
He particularly encouraged the club members to adopt productive living in this competitive modern world and also to preserve the culture and traditions of the forefathers since it was fast disappearing in the modern society.
Earlier, invocation was pronounced by Kumlong Baptist Church pastor, Rev. I. Lima Jamir who released the souvenir. Short speeches were delivered by chairman of Kumlong ward Yimden, S. Lanu Imchen, crayon club treasurer, Lanutoshi Jamir and first Club treasurer, Atula. Club president, Dr. Imlinichet Imchen delivered welcome address while founding member, Yangertoshi Pongen conducted “encomium to the departed souls”. Tiasola Ozukum presented a song titled, “blessings”, while vote of thanks was delivered by general secretary, Maongtemjem Kichu.
Crayon club was established by 19 likeminded youths of the ward in 1992 and is a registered club under the motto “be taught, be trained and shine forth”. It is non-profit and apolitical with the objective of rendering social service in various platforms. Over 25 years, the club had participated in competitions and brought many laurels to the society and is an active partaker of the “go green” initiative of Kumlong environment committee under the aegis of the Kumlong ward Yimden.
SPC Tesophenyu: St. Peter’s Church (SPC) Tesophenyu golden jubilee celebration-cum-priestly ordination of deacon Shayhunlo Stephen Kemp was held under the theme “Peter! You are the rock and on this rock l will build my Church” at local ground Tesophenyu on December 27 and 28. Dedication of jubilee monolith at the Church premises was officiated by Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima follow by priestly ordination of deacon Shayhunlo Stephen Kemp. Guest of honour at felicitation programme was parliamentary secretary PWD, Er. Levi Rengma. Inaugural function was grace by transport commissioner, Elias T. Lotha.
