Training-cum-hands on demonstration (skill development) on vermicompost was conducted by staffs of DAO, Kohima on June 27 at Seiyhama village with Agriculture Officer (AO) (II) Myanthung Patton and AFA Teisovilie as resource persons.
In the training, Patton said vermicompost is a process of composting using various species of vermiworms and is a rich nutrient organic fertilizers and soil conditioners.
He explained that the main component for preparing vermicompost were plant biomass or leaves, fresh cow-dung and vermin-worm which were prepared in tetra vermi bed.
Patton said that vermicompost has high demand in local markets by florist and small scale garden or home garden as it improve soil aeration, enrich soil with micro-organism and enhance germination and plant growth and crop yield. He also said it create low-skill jobs at local level.
Two beneficiaries Avinuo and Savio-o along with 15 farmers participated in a day long activities.
