
Various stalls at Kisama were inaugurated by the parliamentary secretaries during the first day of Hornbill Festival which is underway at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.
According to DIPR report, pony ride at Kisama as part of the Hornbill festival was flagged off by parliamentary secretary of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Service, S. Chuba Longkumer at Kisama.
Speaking on the occasion, S. Chuba Longkumer said that it was a proud moment for the department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Service to flag off the horse ride and the pony cart ride. He called upon all to strife and carry the project forward as an annual event in future also. He also asked the department to work out modalities for the in the interest of the public and wished the department great success in the implementation of the programme.
Director, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Service, Dr. IP Khala in his address said that in this age of mechanization we still needed the pony and pack animals to help us in bringing our agricultural produces.
Short speech was delivered by commissioner & secretary of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, M.K. Mero where he stated that it was a new beginning of the department and called upon the prople to enjoy the ride.
Chairman, Pony Management Committee and joint director (Extn) Dr. Aomangyang Walling in his keynote address mentioned that on 26th February 2002, the Government of Nagaland approved for setting up Pony and Yak Farm at Kigwema on trial basis. The Government of India gave one time grant under animal pack animal scheme and in the year 2015-16 a Pony Management Committee was set up for promotion of the programme.
He stated that the flagging off of this eco-friendly attractive facility of using ponies and horses as pack animals would encourage rural folks to use the animals as means of transport for carrying their agricultural products where vehicles cannot reach.
M. Vivek Singh, International Polo player, coached the horses and pony for more than one month.
Amenba Yaden : crafts bazaar organized jointly by directorate of Industries & Commerce and Naga Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation (NHHDC) at the Bamboo Pavilion in Kisama, was inaugurated by parliamentary secretary of Industries and Commerce, Amenba Yaden. The pavilion has about 120 participants out of which 12 participants are from different states including Assam, Manipur and Mizoram. First time participants in the crafts bazaar include Richana Khumathem from Manipur (Stall 1), Pristine processed food, Dimapur (Stall 8), Magic Threat enterprise Mizoram (Stall 76), Black Pottery Craft Assam Rifles (Stall 88), KC Santra Brew of Indian standard Guwahati (Stall 90), All Nagaland Tea Groomers Association (Stall 94), Vishepu Woodcraft Zunheboto (Stall 100), Hope SHG Mokokchung (Stall 102) and Grace Ovung Wokha (Stall 107) etc.
Kejong Chang: Parliamentary secretary of Horticulture, Kejong Chang formally inaugurated the exhibition, sale cum competition of flowers, fruits, vegetables, spices, departmental farm products, horticulture machineries and products.
The exhibition consisted of stalls set up by different associations and self help groups where competitions are being held in various categories of fruits including oranges, pineapples, banana, kiwi, lime, lemon, papaya, guava etc. The vegetable category includes cabbage, cauliflower, cucurbits, broccoli, carrot, radish etc. Spices such as Naga mircha, ginger, large cardamom, turmeric, garlic, leek (khuve) and indigenous crop like tree tomato are also on display. Varieties of flowers including bonsai, cacti and succulents, bulbs and tubers, perennials, ferns and foliage, fresh and dry flowers arrangement are being showcased. The floral exhibition includes items not only from within the state but also from neighbouring states, like orchids (hybrid and indigenous) from Sikkim. A new venture undertaken by Horticulture department is the setting up of the Farmers’ Hostel for the accommodation and convenience of the participants/farmers. Altogether, 81 participants are taking part in the exhibition cum competition. Prizes and cash awards in the flower category would be distributed on December 3 and for the 23 categories of fruits, vegetable and spices, the prize distribution would be held on December 4.
Apok Jamir: Parliamentary secretary of Tourism, C. Apok Jamir inaugurated the Naga craft portfolio craftscape.
While appreciating the participants of the exhibition, Apok said that tourists were interested to see the rich and unique culture of the Nagas.
Curator of the craftscape, Padmashri Sentila T. Yanger said that the main objective of the craftscape was to preserve the cultural heritage of the Nagas. Apart from many special exhibits include making of shawl, sling bags and male jacket from bark of woods and bamboo plates by artisans of different Naga tribes.
