Vikheho urges govt employees to be sincere

Minister for PWD (R&B) Vikheho Swu Thursday urged government employees to be sincere in their assigned duties.
He was addressing power point presentation by PWD Department (R&B), Dimapur Division, at Hotel Saramati here Thursday.
Hitting out strongly on the unethical work culture of government servants in the state, where certain employees get salary without even going to their work, Vikheho pressed for the need to put an end to the trend. He asserted that one should feel guilty to collect salary without actually earning it.
Minister said there were even cases of people drawing pension of deceased employees and some cases of individuals getting salary from two, three offices simultaneously, which he said was a “shameful thing”.
Calling for a need to change for the better, the minister said systems that were in practise for the past 50 years had become irrelevant in the present technological age, adding that the department should come up with more innovative, productive and applicable ways to upgrade and show more efficiency.
Further, the minister encouraged the gathered employees of the department to enjoy their work as the department was one such where the employees could see developmental works materialise right in-front of their eyes.
Reiterating the need to come up with a practical maintenance policy, Vikheho said the department would streamline the renovation and repairing work of roads in Dimapur town on a priority basis. He urged the senior employees of the department to ensure that there were no compromises or adjustments in the work quality.
Vikheho also said the department should also make timely road repairing works before it goes to a point of complete deterioration, which eventually would become costlier and time consuming.
R&B minister also expressed happiness at the power presentation made by the department officials including Executive Engineer (EE) Vizoto Seletsu, who also chaired the programme and Jr. Er. Howoto Chishi.
1 Dimapur-I assembly constituency MLA Tovihoto Ayemi, who was also present, urged the minister to give required attention to Dimapur as it was “reflection” of Nagaland.
In order to give a better impression to state visitors it was important to keep the road in good condition as outsiders had to go through Dimapur to get to other parts of the state, said Tovihoto.
Describing present ongoing effort to modernise the R&B department by minister Vikheho as a “wake up call”, Tovihoto urged the department employees to be sincere and start working at a faster pace so that people would be able to see change.
The programme was attended by DMC, PHED, Urban and NPF party workers.
After the power point presentation programme, the minister along with the engineer in chief, chief engineer, addl. chief engineer, Dimapur division EE, Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers union president Pele Khezhie and NPF party workers had gone for a spot verification at  project interstate connectivity road-Dhansiripar, NLCPR project-Vidima, half-constructed NLCPR bridge-Pabscon and the bridge over River Visakapu.
He held interactions on funding status and importance of the project works with the department officials and contractors of the mentioned projects.
