State Transport and Civil aviation, Railways and Land Resources minister, P. Paiwang Konyak has appealed to the Centre for a one-time special package of Rs. 30 crore for development of coffee sector in the state for three years at the rate of Rs. 10 crore per year.
During his meeting with the union minister for Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, Paiwang informed the latter that such assistance would help in setting up nurseries, maintenance of plantation to wean away farmers from jhuming, establishment of infrastructure such as construction of water harvesting structures, training and exposure visits, PRO Nagaland House New Delhi stated in a press note.
PRO said Prabhu assured Paiwang of sanctioning a package in the current financial year for promotion of coffee plantation in Nagaland.
Paiwang was accompanied by chairman MARCOFED, Dr. M Chuba Ao.
