Demonstration on oyster mushroom cultivation

With an aim to promote skills for income generation to improve livelihood, one day hands on demonstration on oyster mushroom cultivation and value addition of horticulture crops was conducted on May 20 at Aoyimti village, Dimapur.
The demonstration was organized by Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), DAC Government of India (GoI) Medziphema and department of horticulture in collaboration with Metemlar SHG, Aoyimti. 
During the programme, director, National Research centre on Mithun, Jharnapani, Dr. Abhijit Mitra spoke on the benefits of mushroom cultivation and preparation of pickles, squash, candy etc.
He asked the participants to incorporate with these enterprises not only as a daily source of nutrition but also to utilized as a means of self employment avenue by participating in the programmes.
Guest of honour of the programme, CIH director, Dr. Lallan Ram said if the participants do not implement what they have learnt from the training the objective of the programme would not be fulfilled. 
Ram said he would also ensure that CIH will support such type of programme for the improvement of livelihood. 
Hands demonstration on oyster mushroom cultivation was demonstrated by supervisor Imlitemsu and HO from Mushroom development centre, horticulture department Talimongba. Chilly pickle, ginger candy and mango squash were demonstrated by PHT, CIH Manzar Hossain and horticulture specialist Sentiyangla. Short speeches were also delivered by registrar (Rtd.) of Nagaland cooperative societies Imtila Jamir and Aoyimti Village Council (AVC) chairman.
At valedictory programme, certificate along with reading materials and training kits consisting of mushroom spawn, food grade hand gloves and preservatives like citric acid and KMS were distributed to the participants. 
The training was imparted to housewives and educated unemployed youth mainly comprise of women folks. Around 95 participants from Aoyimti village and within Dimapur attended the programme.
