Sensitization on NRRPAP held in Mon

In order to obtain clean Electoral Roll, a one day awareness and sensitization program on NRRPAP for AEROs, Supervisors and BLOs of Mon district under SVEEP Campaign 2015 was held at council hall, Mon on May 14.
Deputy Commissioner, Mon W. Honje Konyak , while asserting that BLOs are the custodian and guardian of the electoral roll, he called upon the BLOs to own the electoral roll and at the same time analysis and update it regularly to ensure electoral roll as desired by the ECI. He said the BLOs must accept the dual profession entrusted to them by the ECI with confidence and aspiration.
Maintaining that electoral roll is the main basis of political system and defective electoral roll means unfair election, Honje said clean or dirty election depends upon the role and responsibility of the BLOs, Supervisors and AEROs.“ Refining electoral roll ensures clean election and our cry for clean election would be in vain without purifying the electoral roll”, he added.
Citing EPIC linking with Aadhaar card he said both the cards are equally required for obtaining facilities and benefits from Government and private agencies besides election. He also urged upon the BLOs, Supervisors and AEROs to realize the importance and seriousness of cleaning the electoral roll as entering wrong information will deprive the genuine beneficiaries.
The President Konyak Union, Manlip Konyak in his speech said with the advancement of technology there is no room to conceal the facts and urged the BLOs to be active and educate the ignorant public in cleaning electoral roll. He also said that multiple entries have denied genuine voters for enrolment due to limited forms issued by the department. He also thanked the administration for conducting the awareness program for the people of the district.
The President KNSK Lomei in her short speech said failure to conduct door to door campaign has led to entry of wrong information and urged the BLOs to conduct door to door campaign. She also urged the BLOs not to work under the influence of wine or politicized the campaign. She also assured that KNSK is ready to extend any assistance if the BLOs so required.
President Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) Longai Wangnao said that the presences of NGOs in the program indicate the willingness to support and cooperate with the BLOs in cleaning the electoral roll. He also said that wrong entry of information in the Aadhaar and EPIC will hamper the career of the students in the future.
The technical session was led by resource persons Pakon Phom, SDO civil Phomching & Master trainer and Thejavizo Nakhro EAC Mon Sadar & Master Trainer. They spoke on NERPAP and The constitutional and legal provision of election matters respectively.
The training program which was initiated by the Deputy Commissioner and chaired by ADC Mon Mr. M.A. Shahib concluded with interaction and question hours. The program was attended by the AEROs, Supervisors and more than 200 BLOs from 9 constituency of Mon District.
