Government allows DMC to continue toll tax collection

Taking note of the developmental activities being carried out by Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) within its jurisdiction, during the last four months, state government has allowed DMC to continue collection of toll tax for another two months- May to June.
This was disclosed by DMC administrator. H. Atokhe Aye Friday while inaugurating the newly constructed drainage (630feet) at Burma Camp, Dimapur.
It may be noted that, earlier the state government in a notification had allowed DMC to collect toll tax for three months- January to March- on trial basis. The period ended March and following appeals from various organizations, the government in an order extended DMC’s toll tax collection to April.
The commendable work did by DMC during this period have been appreciated by many, which the state government has further extended to another two months.
DMC under the Atokhe has been utilizing some of the money collected from toll tax to repair roads and clear drainages in and around Dimapur.
He termed the newly constructed drainage at Burma Camp as another milestone and added the whole length of the drain would be completed soon.
To bring drastic changes, DMC has started construction of wall at the dumping site, he added.
Instead of the limited resources, DMC has also been carrying out developmental works in some of the colonies, Atokhe said.
The decision to carry out developmental activities was not taken by DMC alone but was the decision of the board, he added.
Atokhe also lauded the public and the leaders of various colonies for their cooperation, allowing DMC to carry out the works smoothly.
