DMC repairs 5 roads in 4 months

Acting on its commitment to develop and beautify the main commercial hub of the State, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has repaired and blacktopped five roads within a span of four months within its jurisdiction.
DMC has been carrying developmental activities like road repairs, construction of dustbins in colonies and drainage works after state government allowed the council collect toll taxes on trial basis for three months.
Though the three months allotted time ended on March, on observing the good works being maintained by DMC, the state government has extended another one month (April) to DMC to collect toll taxes.
On Tuesday, a 1539 sqm, road repaired and blacktopped by DMC at Manipuri Bosti, Dimapur was inaugurated by additional director directorate of municipal affairs, Toshi Manen.
Toshi reminded the gathering that municipal council should not be considered as cleaning garbage alone but that it has been empowered to provide basic necessities to the public.
To this, the cabinet in its notification on April 1 has created a separate Directorate for Municipal Affairs, he added.
Under the newly created directorate there are three municipal councils –Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung and 16 town councils.
The additional director informed that he has been entrusted to improve the revenue collection from these municipals and town councils.
In his address, administrator DMC, H Atokhe Aye said lot of things needed to be done if given the chance and added that DMC had submitted various work schedules relating to development of Dimapur to state government.
He informed the additional director, that DMC has been receiving more application from various colonies to carry out development in their colonies.
Atokhe, however, said that DMC with limited resources could not reach to all the colonies and appealed to the additional director for more funds to carry forward the developmental works.
Despite of the limited resources, DMC would look forward for more development and beautification in Dimapur, he added.
Atokhe then appealed the public to pay the “mandatory” Residential Sanitation Tax (RST) to DMC adding those colonies that pay RST tax would be accorded top priority.
