Toilet construction: ACAUT demands details from PHED

ACAUT Nagaland has demanded clarification and details from the PHE department following the report published in The Indian Express, which had pointed out that Nagaland had constructed zero number of toilets,
In a press release, ACAUT media cell said that the figures put out by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation whereby Nagaland and Goa have constructed zero toilets out of 4.3 million toilets countrywide during the financial year 2014-15 needs to be thoroughly probed.
It said PHE department “should clarify as to how much amount was sanctioned for this Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) during the financial year 2014-15; and if sanctioned as per the report, why there was no construction of even a single toilet?”
Further, ACAUT also demanded the “name(s) of the contractor and the supplier(s) of the commodes be made public”.
ACAUT said such report in the national media was very serious, as it indicated 100% non-implementation of the scheme “with high possibility of large scale misappropriation of funds”.
Though commodes for such schemes were already procured, ACAUT said the implementing department (PHED) needs to make immediate clarification.
