Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur Kesonyü Yhome, IAS Wednesday inaugurated Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC)’s fourth major repaired road (1944 square meter) at Netaji/Railway Colony Dimapur. Reportedly this stretch of road has been repaired after 20 years.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Yhome lauded DMC for its dedication in developing Dimapur city and asked the public to appreciate and cooperate with the council so it could render better service. He said the inaugural function was held so the repaired road could be handed over to the public, adding that since DMC did not receive any “maintenance fee” it was now for the public to look after the road.
He also stressed the need to maintain and clear drainages so they did not clog and damage the road. Earlier, DMC administrator H Atokhe Aye lauded the government for allowing DMC to collect toll tax for three months. He said if given chance DMC would bring positive development and make Dimapur a model town.
Stating that DMC was also looking after sanitation of 71 colonies within its jurisdiction, Aye however lamented “poor sanitation” by public due to lack of civic sense.
He appealed to the public to cooperate with the council in keeping the city clean.
Later, talking to Nagaland Post, Dimapur Municipal Council Employees Welfare Union (DMC-EWU) EWU general secretary T Revo Anar expressed hope that the government would further extend the order allowing DMC to collect toll tax keeping in mind the developmental works done by the council within three months.
He pointed out that in the last notification, the government allowed the council to collect toll tax form “January 2015 to March 2015 and till further order”. Since DMC was yet to receive any formal order from the government in regard to extending or discontinuing, Anar exuded confidence that the council would receive positive response.
Asked whether DMC-EWU would agitate if they did not receive positive response from the government, Anar said that the union would soon be sitting for a general meeting to discuss toll tax issue amongst other agendas.
He, however, pointed out that DMC-EWU’s stand has been against lessees and that it depended on the government to apply its wisdom to decide on the matter keeping in mind the developmental works done by DMC, which he said was “a testament in itself.”
