Showuba women chase away NPG tax collectors; ACAUT lauds village

Entire Showuba village, Women Action Committee (WAC) with the village council and students union have been agitating since February 23 against the multiple taxations by various Naga Political Groups within Showuba village.
Talking to Nagaland Post, WAC general secretary N. Asenla Yim and wife of G.B, Kherila Yim revealed that taxes were being collected from every commercial vehicle and villagers carrying vegetables on a cycle for sale in the village market without exemption.
She said WAC observed that due to rampant taxations, commercial vehicles refused to enter the village and this caused tremendous hardship on the villagers. She said WAC has also submitted a representation with the higher authorities of the NPGs , urging them to stop collecting taxes within one week under its jurisdiction. She said the representation of the WAC also acknowledged by the higher authority of various NPGs but despite that, rampant collection of multiple taxations continued.
WAC has vowed to continue with the agitation till the NPGs stop collection of multiple taxes within the village jurisdiction.
ACAUT: Media Cell of ACAUT Nagaland, has lauded the womenfolk and village council of Showuba village, 4th Mile Dimapur for chasing out cadres of both “NSCN (U) and NSCN (I-M)” collecting unauthorized tax within the village jurisdiction and maintaining vigil for the past week to prevent any form of taxation.
ACAUT such collections by the two groups continued despite repeated warnings by village authorities, that such collections by the two factions on the main road connecting Dimapur and Niuland caused immense harassment on private goods vehicles and commercial vehicles and passenger autos.
ACAUT said some of the womenfolk confided, that despite expiry of the one-week period on February 22 both groups refused to vacate the area despite the promises made by their higher ups.
ACAUT said the “most galling aspect of taxation at Showuba village” was that both NSCN (U) and NSCN (I-M) “were collecting taxes in all apparent camaraderie” whereas their top leadership had been spurning every reconciliation efforts of the FNR. “The hypocrisy is all too apparent to ignore”, said ACAUT. It reminded that unauthorized and unabated taxation by NPGs remained an issue which each and every individual should be committed against “ as a personal burdern”.
ACAUT called upon all Nagas in every district of Nagaland to stand united and rise up against the menace so that “Nagas do not have to suffer anymore”.
It also asked the police and administration not to be afraid to back up Showuba womenfolk by deploying security since the womenfolk had done what the Dimapur Police should have done long ago.
ACAUT also called upon neighbouring villages not to allow those chased out cadres to operate within their jurisdictions since it would “negate the good work of Showuba village.”
