Expressing surprise over the alleged death of three Indian army jawans and injuries to another five in a conflict between NSCN (I-M) and Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) on February 27, the ZUF has sought to know how and when the Indian Army collaborated and joint hands with their “long-term enemy NSCN-IM.”
In a press release, ZUF information & publicity secretary A. Dangmei claimed that the incident, which occurred in the border of Luangreng village and Tamlok village, was one of the “most acrimonious incidents” ever happened in Tamenglong district by a “so called the friends of hill people” and the NSCN (I-M) an ‘acclaimed Nagas Nationalist’ toward uprooting the ZUF.
ZUF reiterated its position that it was not against any insurgent groups and neighbouring ethnic groups nor enemy to the Indian institutional bodies. The front also asserted it only reaffirmed to demand the government of India to acknowledge the legitimate aspiration of the Zeliangrongs in getting due justice and manifest the inherent rights for Zeliangrong people under the framework of ‘Union of India’ as it had moved by Rani Gaidinliu.
Further, ZUF maintained that involvement of Indian Army raises doubt whether they wanted to destroy the legacy of Rani Gaidinliu, a veteran Indian freedom fighter. It demanded clarification from the responsible authority at the earliest.
Meanwhile, ZUF cautioned the NSCN (I-M) that everyone was Nagas by blood and that no one should self proclaim that ‘I am holier than thou’. It said the incident and alleged ongoing operation plan by NSCN (I-M) was a direct threat to the peaceful environment and could cause security predicament to innocent Zeliangrong people and in its areas.
Asking the NSCN (I-M) why was it so sensitive in every chapter of Naga history when it occurred in Zeliangrong areas, ZUF further queried “what steps do the NSCN-IM openly or discreetly taken to the other groups of other areas that is, as per their opinion, confronting the larger Nagas interest?”
The front challenged the NSCN (I-M) to stand judiciously if they truly stood for the collective cause of Nagas.
ZUF underlined that, until the NSCN (I-M) desist bias treatment, it saw no fulfilment in achieving larger Nagas dream.
ZUF clarifies: Reacting to the news report from Imphal– “woman injured in militant firing”, ZUF has clarified that Gaijangam has had no connection whatsoever with the ZUF. In a press release, ZUF info & publicity secretary A. Dengmei said that such report distorts the truth and cautioned to first verify the veracity of the incident before being published.
