Around 20 individuals from a wide spectrum of society, involved with social action projects, business, church, youth enterprises, state government planning and various professions held over two hours of fruitful deliberation with members from the Royal University of Bhutan and business consultant. The meeting was organised as part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by Nagaland Post at Hotel Saramati Monday.
The qualitative deliberation provided inputs towards mainstreaming a new dimension to supplement development strategies and perspectives in Nagaland.
Introducing the broad parameters for discussion Editor Nagaland Post Geoffrey Yaden shared the view that the Bhutan experience with Gross National Happiness (GNH) could be used as an inspiration to create a model that was best suited for the Nagaland context.
Some of the issues over which free and frank views were shared included-security and peace, tribal culture, eco-tourism, education, investments, entrepreneurship, role of church and spirituality, good governance etc.
Those who spoke lamented on lack of work culture and ethics, absence of civic sense, corruption at various strata of society, hurdles to investments, unorganised local markets for entrepreneurs and the need to look beyond; the inability of the church to use its influence to mentor transformation and why Nagaland was still shackled to the past while other neighbouring states were experiencing rapid development.
Problems confronting contemporary society and probable solutions were also shared by various speakers. Those who attended and deliberated included-Geoffrey Yaden (Editor Nagaland Post), Fr. Chacko (Rector Good Shepherd Seminary), Mrs. Kevileno (Planning department, Government of Nagaland), Rev. Dr. Z Keyho (Church/NBCC), Lezo Putsure (YouthNet), Dr. Neel Konwar (Psychologist, Guwahati), Karchung (Kuberaa & Co, Bhutan), Changa Dorji (Bhutan), K Tiatemsu Longchar (Chairman, EATACOL), Dr. Khekugha (GS CNECT), Sr.Theresa (Assisi Centre), Kvulo Lorin (Administrator Tetso College), Dr. Temsuwapang Longchari (President, Indian Dental Association Nagaland), Kishore Das (SPO/DAN), Hyonilo Anilo Khing (Young Indians), Oren Ovung (Young Indians/Star Mart), Yanrenthung Ezung (Nagaland University), Aochuba Yaden (Director Nagaland Post), Moamenla Ezung (Nagaland Post), Amenla Longkumer (Child Psychologist) and Rev.
