North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) conducted a debate on “Role of youth in building Nagaland” on February 13 with the participation of students from Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU), Dimapur, Rajagiri School of Social Sciences, Kerala, and staff of Peace Channel, Dimapur.
Fr. CP Anto, Principal of NEISSR, has highlighted briefly about youth issues of Nagaland and other parts of the country. During the debate, speakers, against the motion highlighted different factors that are affecting the youth of Nagaland like corruption, negative politics, lack of goodwill on the part of politicians, faulty policies. The participants favoring the statement stressed on the initiatives taken by the different student unions like Naga Students’ Federation and Eastern Naga Students’ Federation for the welfare of the students and the society.
In the concluding remark, Robert Liangamang, Associate Professor, NEISSR, raised three questions such as what should be the role of a youth? How can youth be agent of change? And what the society can expect from the youth?
