Excise seizes 960 bottles liquor

Excise duty party stationed at Chumukedima check gate under the command of Allen W Jami (AIE) detected and seized 960 bottles of assorted liquor from Kohima bound truck bearing Registration. No. NL01 G 2563 during routine checking on February 10.  The duty party said the seized consignments were confiscated hidden beneath the sand and cement bags to evade detection. Driver of the truck namely PF Agustine from Makhan Centre Village, Senapati, and handyman Verato from Phek town were detained and the case was registered for violation NLTP Act. The accused persons disclosed that the consignment was loaded from Purana Bazaar, Dimapur, and was transporting for Rs 5000. They confided that the consignment belonged to one Daha, wife of Saleo and resident of Mao Gate, Manipur. Assistant Commissioner of Excise in- charge, Dimapur, Visedelie Mepfuo has lauded the duty party for the seizure. He also said the modus operandi of bootleggers often keeps changing in order to avoid detection.
