Yajang C village slams Assam Police action

Yajang C Village council Friday, while condemning the February 5 incident, alleged that the Assam Police along with Foresters raided, destroyed and looted the farmers of Yajang village. In a press release, the village council said that on February 5 midday, when Yajang villagers were in their fields, “armed Assam Police and Foresters of Jorhat district swooped upon the innocent farmers and started chasing them off”. “Women, children, men both young and old were forcefully driven from their farms. Utensils, including their lunch were thrown”, the council alleged.
The council said that the farms were randomly destroyed and mobile phones, daos, solar lamps and other items used for farming were seized by Assam Police. In this regard, the Yajang village authority appealed the Mokokchung district administration to carry out a spot verification to ascertain the “destruction by the senseless Assam police and to discuss the matter at the highest level.
Failing to do so, the village authorities have warned that the farmers would resort to forceful means of agitation, and that the council would not be held responsible.
