Solid waste management training held in Dimapur

The 29 Assam Rifles, in partnership with Pro Rural, has organized a one day training on solid waste management at Kashiram Basti, Dimapur, on February 6.
As Defence personnel of the country, Assam Rifles has been playing an active role in promoting the good practices of waste management spreading across the country, said Ms. Kahuli Swu, Assistant Project Co-ordinator, Pro Rural, in her introductory address during the training. She also recommended the army personnel to be a lively agent of waste management.
In the technical session, Kapani Athilu Khrasi, CEO, Pro Rural, explained about the different types of waste such as bio-degradable, non-bio-degradable, hazardous and inert waste.
Benefits of good practices based on 4Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Refuse in solid waste management were imparted.
While referring to a recent TV news, which reported that India produces over 1,30,000 metric tons of solid waste per day, he said our country produces over 39,00,000 metric tons in a month and 4,68,00,000 MT in a year.
He said in few years time, the waste accumulated in India alone could build a mountain like the Himalayas which by then the world would be much hotter from the methane gas emitted directly from the waste.
He concluded the technical session by sharing the immediate action on what each one could do towards better solid waste management. 
Adahe Neli, Co-ordinator, Pro Rural, concluded the training program by stating that everyone wants to live in an environment that is clean, fresh, and healthy.
He stressed that it is the responsibility of every citizen to make our environment clean and hygienic adding it could possible only if we manage waste in our day-to-day life.
He said some common diseases such as malaria, diarrhea, typhoid, etc are caused by unmanaged garbage, stagnant drainages, etc. Lastly, he projected that protecting the environment today would be one of the greatest gifts to the future generation to come.
