A MVCP of 11 Assam Rifles intercepted two vehicles including a Scorpio bearing Registration No. NL – 01C – 3677 and a Maruti Swift Dzire bearing Registration No. NL – 01H – 7167 on January 29 and recovered 228 bottles of whisky (MC Dowell), 252 bottles of rum (MC Dowell No 1), 144 can beer, 120 bottles of Beer (Kingfisher) and 35 bottles of whisky (OC Blue) worth Rs 2,24,000 near Zapami village.
Three individuals were apprehended namely Mrs Apele (54) wife of late Atho and resident of Kami village in Phek district; Parish Kumar Singha (24), son of Dijamani Singha and resident of Hajong in Nagaon (Assam); and K Lasso (30), son of Kezukh and resident of Jukitha village in Phek district.
The individuals, vehicles and contraband items were handed over to the police station and an FIR to this effect was lodged at Pfutsero police station.
