With the objective to unite the Gorkhas of Nagaland and North-East states, Dimapur Gorkha Union (DGU) has hosted the first ever North East Nepali literary symposium cum felicitation programme at Town hall Dimapur here Sunday. The event was organized by Mir Mirey Kanchanjunga Sikkim in collaboration with the North Eastern Nepali writers, poets and journalists Altogether 42 delegates comprising students, public and Gorkha union members from Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, Sikkim and Darjeeling attended the programme.
The programme was graced by chief executive Gorkha Development Council, Government of Assam, Arun Upadhyaya, and Editor-in-chief Nagaland Post, Geoffrey Yaden, as the chief guest and the guest of honour respectively.
In the programme, Late Hariprasad Gorkha Rai was felicitated for his contributions, while short speech was also said by his family member and his poem “Camp Uthyo” was also recited. Others from the field of administration, education, social and politics were also felicitated.
Earlier in the programme, declaration of symposium through lighting of lamp was carried out by the chief guest and guest of honour. Welcome speech was delivered by chief advisor DGU Sanjay Pandey Chettri.
During the second session of the programme, the guest of honor and the chief guest delivered speeches respectively. The programme was compeered by Sikimar Pradhan and vote of thanks was delivered by press and information secretary GUN Vikram Sunar.
In the entertainment part of the programme, the gathering was enthralled by performances of song and dance.
