Governor of the Reserve Bank of India(RBI) Raghuram Raja in a letter to Nagaland chief minister T.R.Zeliang acknowledged the receipt of the letter dated January 16,2015. In the letter, chief minister T.R.Zeliang had requested action from the RBI on news reports that money was remitted abroad to accounts in his and his wife’s name.
In the reply dated January 31,2015 , the RBI Governor informed Zeliang that he had requested the department in the RBI to look into the matter.
Eyewash to mislead public: NPF (Noke)
Reacting to the request made to RBI governor for a probe, NPF (Noke) press and media cell (P&MC) said “the ploy is only an eyewash on the part T.R. Zeliang to mislead the public.”
In a statement, P&MC stated that “the exposure of the huge amounts of black money transfer involving the minority chief minister T.R. Zeliang has created shock throughout the country”. Accusing Zeliang of trying to evade the issue and by making every attempt to divert the issue by saying that he would welcome any investigation, P&MC said he had even written to the RBI asking the latter to look into the matter.
Stating that the exposure revealed transfer of money from Singapore to Hong Kong and from Singapore to Kuala Lampur and not from India to abroad, P&MC said the question of RBI investigating the transfers does not arise.
Pointing out that if Zeliang was serious about welcoming any investigation, P&MC said “he should call a meeting of the state cabinet and approve for an independent investigation by the CBI into any transfers of black money, especially black money involving awarding of contracts to oil companies for Nagaland”.
