Baptist World Alliance (BWA) has appealed to all Baptists churches and Christians worldwide to both commemorate and celebrate the Baptist World Alliance Day, and also to mark the day – the first Saturday-Sunday of February – in their future annual church and personal calendars.
In a press release, BWA stated that BWA Day was originally observed on first Sunday of February. However, some years back the BWA Day was moved to another day in the month of May.
This year, BWA said it has brought BWA Day back and resettling it to its historic and original day in February. For this it has re-launched the BWA Day this February. According to the BWA, “The celebration [of the BWA Day] is aimed at affirming Baptist identity within the worldwide Christian family. Baptists are encouraged to pray for each other and to renew their commitment to cooperate with Baptists globally through the BWA.”
Considering the fact that there are regions where, for contextual reasons and realities, weekly worship is on Saturday (e.g., in neighbouring Nepal, Christians worship on Saturday because Sunday is an official working day), BWA has now set the first Sunday of February, or the first Saturday immediately preceding it, as the BWA Day.
This year the dates have been fixed February 7 & 8. For most, including Baptists of Nagaland, the BWA Day 2015 would be observed on February 8, BWA informed.
