Altogether 525 patients were benefited at the one day health mela held at Government Primary School, Beisumpuikam village, in Peren district located 78 kms from district headquarters on January 28.
It was the first medical camp conducted by the Health and Family Welfare Department in the area. A medical team headed by Dr. Ngangshimeren (CMO), Dr. Tiala (Dy. CMO), Dr. Khrielasanuo (DPO UIP/RCH), Dr. Limatula (DPO NVBDCP), Dr. Yartenla (DTO RNTCP), Dr. Hedungkiebe (Eye Specialist), Dr. Dennis (Obs & G), Dr. Botoho (Surgeon), Dr. Lungkeuding (Paediatrics), Dr. Thangmang (Medical Specialist), Dr. Neilasakuo (MO Ntu), Dr. Gloria (Dental Surgeon), Dr. Imnuksungba (Epidemilogist IDSP), including nurses, ophthalmic assistant, paramedics, counselors and lab technician, NHM staff, and surveillance worker malaria took part in the health mela providing their services to the people.
Free medical checkups and basic free medicines were given along with the services of specialized doctors.
The mela witnessed hundreds of people wherein patients numbering to 525 availed free medical services at the health mela. Under the Family Planning services 2- Cu-T insertions were done, Oral pills and condoms were distributed, 4 minor surgeries were done, a total of 30 patients with dental problems were examined, 160 eye screening were done out of which 15 were diagnosed with cataract, 8 children with refractive cases, 38 children were given immunization, 16 blood test for HIV and 8 for malaria and 8 sputum were collected on the spot for suspected TB cases.
Publicity and awareness was done in the form of distribution of IEC materials- leaflets in local dialect, posters and booklets and at the same time IPC session, Focus Group Discussion and counseling was conducted regarding health talks on Family planning and Adolescents health care, child health immunization, maternal health and HIV/AIDS. Nutritional package were also given to all the pregnant women and lactating mothers.
