ACAUT, Nagaland taking note of the recent reductions in global fuel prices, urged the transport department to consider reduction in NST bus fares. In a representation to Transport commissioner, ACAUT said since hike in fuel prices was always the reason for hike in fare rates, however, “at no point of time has the fares of passenger transport vehicles been reduced on account of reduction in crude oil prices.”
ACAUT said major tyre manufactures in India also slashed their prices for truck and light commercial vehicle owing to falling of rubber price and oil.
Pointing out that the two most consumable items– oil and tyres for running a transport had been reduced significantly, ACAUT in this regard urged for reduction in NST bus fare.
ACAUT said, at a time of economic hardship in the state, such citizen centric measures would always go a long way in re-assuring the people.
It said ACAUT being a public movement, would not hesitate to gather public opinion on this issue “if the department does not initiate changes in public interest at the earliest”.
The willingness to address this issue would also ensure transport operators like zonal taxis as well as autorickshaws to follow suit and comply with such measures, ACAUT stated.
