Wokha observes National Voters’ Day

Along with the rest of the country, Wokha district election department also observed the 5th National Voters’ Day on the theme ‘Easy registration, easy correction’ here at the DBs Court, Wokha, with DC and DEO Wokha, A Robin Lotha, gracing the programme as chief guest on January 25.
Elaborating on the significance of the National Voters’ Day, the chief guest said that the right to vote was a constitutional right guaranteed by the constitution of India to all its citizens above the age of 18. Lotha further said that it was the responsibility of all right thinking citizens to ensure that we use this constitutional right meaningfully and in electing capable and responsible leaders to lead us.
The chief guest also led the gathering in reading out the voter’s pledge after which he presented awards in various categories to the awardees.
Best Booth Level Office (BLO) Award which included citations and cash were presented to four BLOs from the district, namely, Rhanthungo Kikon 37/11 – Tsungiki II, Woben Kithan 38/43 – Wokha Town XIX, Yanbemo Odyuo 39/7 – Pangti III, and P. Abemo Kithan 40/19 – Serika.
Cash awards for winners of the SVEEP competition in essay, debate and painting held on November 2014 were also presented during the programme. In essay, E. Pithunglo Humtsoe (DBHSS Wokha), B. Tsenbeni Ezung (DBHSS Wokha), and Jungshilemla Ao (Bailey Baptist College Wokha) bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively; in debate, Renjanthung L. Patton (DBHSS Wokha) and Florence Sumi (DBHSS Wokha) bagged first and second prizes respectively for the motion while Sendeno Murry (DBHSS Wokha) and Florence Tungoe (GHSS Wokha) bagged the first and second prizes respectively for against the motion; in painting, Yanrenthung Kithan (DBHSS Wokha), Echungbeni Ngullie (GHSS Wokha), and Mhabemo N. Odyuo (DBHSS Wokha) bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.  
During the programme, newly enrolled electors were also presented with their electoral photo identity cards.
EAC Wokha Athrong chaired the programme while assistant election officer Wokha Toshimongba Longchar proposed the vote of thanks.
