Makaam Foundation conveys greetings

On the occasion of the birth centenary of Rani Gaidinliu, Makaam Foundation has greeted all the people of North East India and other indigenous people across the world.  In a press release, president of Makaam Foundation Mathiupuang Gonmei said, while observing her birth centenary today, it is all the more important to remember the noble cause for which she lived and worked throughout her life. It said she, along with Haipou Jadonang, fought against the mighty British colonial power to ensure that the indigenous people did not suffer socially, economically and politically at the hands of alien forces. She also stood up against cultural invasion by outside forces.  Haipou Jadonang was hung to death and later Rani Gaidinliu was imprisoned for life. After her release from jail she continued the struggle to bring her people under one administrative unit but she passed away before she realized her long cherished dream.
The statement said every enlightened soul acknowledged that her struggle was not just for the Zeliangrong people but was a true role model of the indigenous peoples’ fight for justice where indigenous people could re-assert and re-establish a rightful place for themselves in the comity of nations.
On the occasion, Makaam Foundation appealed to all concerned to re-dedicate and re-commit themselves to the sublime cause that Rani Gaidinliu has shown.
