To equip themselves with various tools in its fight against organized drug trafficking and bootlegging, 23 Excise personnel are undergoing training on various subjects at 173Bn CRPF, Dimapur.
The training which started on January 12 would conclude Friday. The trainees comprised of six Assistant Inspectors including one female, two havildars and 15 constables. They are being trained under the guidance of Commandant 173 Bn CRPF, Anupam Sharma.
They were trained on various subjects such law, operational, handling of various type of firearms, prohibition act in Nagaland, map reading, yoga, unarmed combat, explosive, first response, etc.
According to the Commissioner of Excise, Maongwati Aier, this was the third time the CRPF had imparted training to Excise personnel. Over 100 personnel had been trained by CRPF, he said. The Commissioner also lauded the CRPF for imparting training free of cost.
It may be recalled that Aier who took over as the new Commissioner of Excise on August 1, 2011, observing the problems faced by the department, had forwarded a proposals to Planning and Excise Minister and the State Chief Secretary for modernization, deployment of man power and authorization for the use of firearms by excise personnel. Following which the State government had issued assortment of firearms to excise personnel in 2012.
Aier further said that the training would boost the morale of the Excise personnel in dealing with the organized drug trafficking and bootlegging.
CO 173 Bn CRPF, Anupam Sharma, said his officers had also learnt a lot while imparting the training. On the final day of the training, result would be declared, Anupam added.
Excise personnel were being trained by the Deputy Commandant, Pranav Anand; Assistant Commandant Premjeet Singh; Assistant Commandant Brajbhushan; Assistant Commandant Suresh Chandra; Inspector Jagdish Singh and Head Constable, Kanti Das.
