Rebel camp confusing public: Dr. Shürho

Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, NPF president has slammed the rebel camp for “confusing the public with false claims every day without any basis” and said that “their meeting in which Noke was appointed as president, Abu Metha as secretary general, Kuzholuzo as chief whip etc. are nothing but more like mock Parliament”.
Taking a jibe, Dr. Shürhozelie in a press release said it was more like a “mock parliament” organized in schools where some students’ acts as Speaker, another as CM and another as opposition leader. “Starred questions are asked and reply given. This is done in order to let the students become familiar with the parliamentary system as part of their education,” he added.
Reminding that the NPF was the oldest registered and recognised regional political party in the Northeast, Dr. Shürhozelie said the party has a Constitution approved by the Election Commission of India and works strictly according to the provisions of the Constitution in all administrative as well as organisational matters.
Stating that the NPF General Convention (GC) is normally held in November every year, Dr. Shürhozelie said the tenure of the old office bearers were to expire by 2014 end and a new team was to take over by the beginning of 2015.
He said the process for this had started months ahead of the GC by holding a CEC meeting, which had decided the venue and tentative date for the GC and also appointed an Election board to nominate the new team. Accordingly, the Central office issued notice on October 23, 2014 to hold GC on November 26, 2014 at Kohima, he said.
As per the NPF constitution, he said in between the date of issue of notice and the date of holding of the convention, there should be 30 clear days. After the notice is issued, the same had to be published in local newspapers as proof of observing the provisions of the Constitution.
The Election Board works out the new list to placed before the CEC in its traditional meeting, normally held on the eve of the GC. In the GC, he said the Convener of the Election Board then brings out the list of nominated team and gets the approval of the GC. The list is then submitted to the Election Commission of India in the prescribed format.
Citing the above, Dr. Shürhozelie said the “new team was elected by observing all these procedures which is a constitutional obligation”.
However, he said Noke who had been elected as NPF president by the rebels from their camp, the election of their office bearers was totally unauthorised, illegal and unconstitutional.
Terming the allegations of appointing a Core Group to elect him as president as a “wild charge”, Dr. Shürhozelie said as empowered by the NPF Working Committee (the highest policy making body), he had appointed a Core Group to take up necessary exercises to assist the Legislators in electing their new Leader.
The Core group assisted the Legislators in electing T.R. Zeliang as the new leader unanimously, he said. He also clarified that the core group had nothing to do with his election as the president. “I was elected by more than 5000 NPF active members and not by the Core Group”, he stated.
