NSDMA holds meeting on VDMA formation in Kma

Nagaland State disaster management authority (NSDMA), home department in collaboration with district disaster management authority (DDMA) held a meeting January 10 with leaders from southern and western Angami villages.
The meeting discussed formation of a village disaster management authority (VDMA) in each village along with dedicated village disaster management core committee (VDMCC).
Introducing the concept of VDMA, the NSDMA secretary T.Ao said that the need for disaster management was strongly felt at the grassroots level keeping into account the recent Dziikou tragedy and forest fire at Japfii in 2014.
Stressing on the need to make disaster management a ‘People’s movement’, Ao called upon the village leaders to implement the VDMA in letter and spirit.
At the meeting, deputy commissioner (DC) Kohima said the administration would carry out an ‘awareness campaign’ for effective formation of the VDMA and VDMCC at the earliest.
Meanwhile, identification of able youth from each village to undergo training in disaster management keeping in view the approaching dry season was also discussed.
Concerned village chairmen and youth presidents from Southern and Western Villages attended the meeting and highlighted disaster management related problems faced at the grassroots level.
Further, NSDMA informed that similar meetings in all other areas in collaboration with all district disaster management authorities would be held at the earliest.
