Longtsunger Village Citizens (LVC) and Longtsunger Village Council have denied the claimed of Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) over the purported murder attempt of TTC joint secretary Mark Murekiu on January 9 by Kiuto, GB of Longtsunger village and his daughter Tiala and termed the accusation as ‘baseless, unfounded.’
The two organizations have stated this in responds to the news report under caption “TTC condemns murder attempt” which was published in the local dailies on January 15.
In a press release the citizens’ chairman S Shojiba said Longtsunger village is under Yimchunger Tribal Council and therefore the question of attending TSU 34th general conference at Kiusam town from January 10 to 12 doesn’t arise as Yimchungers are not Tikhirs.
LVC alleged that on the fateful night around 10:30 pm, Mark Mürekiu came to the village with armed personnel carrying sophisticated weapons and convened village council meeting when the public were asleep. It said T Kiuto was the first to arrive for meeting when all of a sudden Mark Mürekiu, without any provocation assaulted Kiuto with firewood thereby inflicting injury to him who is now undergoing treatment.
It said Miss Tiala came to his rescue on hearing the cry of his father. However, she was also threatened by Mark Mürekiu to leave the venue immediately or to face the same.
It questioned why Mark Mürekiu was not injured when his life was attempted as claimed by TTC, adding he would never escape unhurt from the village if his life was attempted.
It suggested TTC to immediately terminate him from his post instead of defending Mark Mürekiu with concocted lies. It has urged the law enforcing agency to take immediate action against Mark Mürekiu who holds multiple office of profit.
In a separate statement issued by Longtsonger Village Council chairman Torepkiu and the Head GB, Majim claimed that the question of attempted murder on Mark Murekiu does not arise as he was heavily escorted by GPRN/NSCN. It said the press statement by TTC was baseless and concocted.
In the interest of peace, unity and justice, the village council has urged the appropriate authority to book Mark Murekiu and ward befitting action as deemed fit. It said the village council had file FIR with Pungro Police Station.
