First phase Polio immunisation launched across State

Dimapur conducted the first round of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) at District Hospital Dimapur here Sunday.
Speaking at the launching programme, Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Wetsope Kenye, shared the success story of treating polio in Nagaland with reference to the earlier times where he likened the polio immunization camps to an “election” and people who had polio were treated in seclusion. He said with the advancement in medical science in the present day, one could lead a normal life by availing medical treatment to prevent polio.
Kenye has congratulated the parents for bringing their children to the IPPI booth and lauded the department for providing service to younger generation. Further, he encouraged the department to reach out to the people even in the remote areas where “vehicles cannot go.”  The DC also administered the first drop of polio.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. MA Wati, said that the department aimed to immunize 53,167 children between aged 0-5 by setting up a total of 517 IPPI booths in Dimapur district. He said door to door polio immunization would be carried out spanning one week from January 19. 
Parents along with their children, vertical programme officer, medical officer and medical staffs were present at the function.
Meanwhile, the first round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme was conducted on January 18 in all the districts as per the directives from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. IPPI health workers and volunteers would be conducting house to house visits on January 19 and 20 to administer Polio drop for children who missed to avail polio drops on January 18.
Kohima: In Kohima, the first round IPPI was officially launched by the Commissioner Secretary of Department of Health & Family Welfare, Sentiyanger Imchen, by administering the first Polio drops in the premises of Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK).
Speaking at the launching program, Dr. I. Chubatoshi, State Programme Officer (UIP), Health & Family Welfare, stated that IPPI has been a regular activity with a goal to eradicate Polio in the country. He said that country would be free from polio if people support and maintain to sustain the level.
He has informed that Mobile Polio Teams on IPPI would visit transit points including bus, railway stations and taxi stands all over the state for the next two days.
Tuensang: Tuensang District Health Society (TDHS) conducted the first round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) by mobilizing 920 vaccinators and supervisors and 276 booths in eight blocks in Tuensang district to cover over 27,522 estimated children below 5 years.
Chief Medical Officer, Tuensang, has also acknowledged and conveyed gratitude to all the allied departments, public leaders and people for their co-operation.
Longleng: The 1st round of Intensive Immunization Pulse Polio (IPPI) was conducted in Longleng district with Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, Nikashe Sema, as the chief guest, by administering the first polio drops in the presence of CMO, Dr. N Bendang Jamir, Deputy CMO Dr. Kongyan and all the Programme Officers, nurses and staffs of Medical Department.
Altogether 70 booths were set up across the district manned by 280 vaccinators to cover the target of 7083 children for age group between 0-5 yrs.
Wokha: Wokha district also conducted the first round of IPPI on Sunday where EAC Athrong administered the first polio drops in the presence of CMO, MS, Deputy CMO, Programme Officers and other medical staffs in the office premises. Altogether 197 polio booths, five transit teams, one mobile team were set up to ensure all 0-5 year children population receives Polio drops in the district.
Peren: The first round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) in Peren was held at the District Hospital, Peren, with the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Kadambari Bhagat, as the chief guest who also administered the first polio drop.
Dr. Khrielasanuo, DPO RCH/UIP, has chaired the programme while and the key note address was delivered by Dr. Tiala, Deputy CMO.
Dr. Bhagat in her speech expressed appreciation towards the Medical department for their effort and contribution. She highlighted on the importance of IPPI and requested everyone to extend their full contribution and support in eradicating Polio.
Altogether, 440 volunteers, 140 booths, 21 supervisors were involved in carrying out the tasks in the district. The department has targeted to reach out to 13,294 children between 0-5 years.
