Massive demolition drive in Kma

Kohima district administration along with Kohima Municipal Council, BRO, T Khel council and youth and police administration carried out massive demolition of randomly constructed drainage from Mohonkhola to PHQ junction Sunday under the active initiation of Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Honje Konyak.
Interestingly, as the destruction began, shop/ land/ house owners were seen dismantling the drainages by themselves within their own jurisdiction so that their shops, house might not be affected. The drainage along the stretch was reportedly identified as the most congested and worst drainage system in the town due to random constructions.
The DC reportedly stopped BRO for drainage construction which was sanctioned only for 1 foot width since that would make no difference with the old existing drainage and personally wrote letter to BRO for extension to four feet so that the slab drainage construction would be worthy of.
The BRO were also given a time bound to complete the drainage construction by January 31 after which blacktopping from Mohonkhola to PHQ point would be followed.
DC informed that literally there was no proper drainage system in the state capital for more than a decade and said during the past two years BRO brought sanction of drainage construction measuring 1 foot width.  Subsequently, task force was formed comprising of district and police administration, T Khel council and youth, KMC and BRO. It was decided that slab drainage should be constructed along the footpath and corridor lines of the shops with four feet width extension so that more spacious for footpath and vehicle parking could be constructed.
The district administration, which was actively involved in dismantling the drainages, also bore the expenses for machineries and lunch for the volunteers and officials since BRO’s sanction does not include for dismantling and clearance of the drainages except for the drainage construction.
The DC, while appreciating the support and active participation of the T Khel council and youth, Poterland and Minister’s Hill Panchayat, KMC, police administration and BRO towards the joint venture, has sought similar co-operation to lift the state capital in the days to come.
