Chizamians celebrate Chizami Za

The people of Chizami in Phek district have celebrated “Chizami Za (Day) for the first time on January 8 wherein about four thousand people including the Chizami people who were married to other non-Chizamis also attended the celebration. The Chizami Za was organized under the aegis of the Chizami Village Council on the theme “Recognizing history, celebrating the present, inspiring the future.”
During the celebration, various cultural items were presented besides setting up stalls which exhibited the rich culture and traditions of the Chizamians. The Chizami village has six Khels and six Morungs belonging to each Khel were also impressively constructed. The names of the Khels are  Pfutsepa, Pulekhro, Kepero, Pfutse, Ladelekhro, Mecutheza.
The objectives of celebrating Chizami Za was to preserve, promote and celebrate the rich cultural heritage and social dynamics of Chizami village. It is also to renew and build family ties, friendships and unity through bringing together every Chizami citizen, in-laws and well-wishers settled across the State and beyond.
For visitors, it meant a closer understanding of the people and culture of the village in particular and Chakhesang Nagas at large. It also provided opportunity to experience the food, songs, dances and customs of its people. The Chizami Za would be celebrated after every five years.
