A three-day 30th triennial convention of the Angami Catholic Youth Assocaition got underway Friday at Holy Cross Church, Dimapur, on the theme ‘Show yourself in all respects a model of good works’.
The convention was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Pezalhoukho George Rino, Spiritual Director ACYA, while Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, was the main celebrant. The inaugural programme was marked by hoisting of flags of different ACYA regions and villages, cutting of the ribbon, lighting of the convention lamp and a moment of one minute silence in remembrance of past leaders.
Speaking at the occasion, Rev. Fr. Pezalhoukho George Rino, has stressed on the theme by quoting from the Epistle of Titus 1:16, 2:5-10 saying ‘Good work not only perfect but also beneficial to others.’
He mentioned about the qualities of good works that are required in every aspects of life and asked the youth to follow the example of St. Francis, St Joseph, St John the Baptist, St Dominic Savio and St Maria Goretti to set an example of good life.
He challenged the youth to show their goodness, enthusiasm, potentials, capabilities and talents by being truthful in life and to keep the culture intact in order to bring out the best in oneself.
Rev. Fr. George also exhorted the gathering by quoting phrase from the book of Galatians 6:9 which states, ‘Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.’
The programme was chaired by Beituo Cyril, while the welcome address was delivered by ACYA president Keleseho Stephen followed by bible reading and special numbers by the choir.
