St. Xavier’s Church begins year-long jubilee celebration

The yearlong golden jubilee celebration of St. Xavier’s Catholic Church, Zhavame, began on January 14. It was marked with inauguration and blessing of its newly constructed ‘Golden Jubilee Memorial Building’ by Rev. Fr. Guria Nestor, SDB, Salesian Provincial, Dimapur, Nagaland. He was also the main celebrant for the Eucharistic celebration and the chief guest for the occasion.
During the inauguration, the chief guest also released two pigeons after the Holy Mass to signify peace and love and for the congregation to keep these gifts in preparation for the main golden jubilee celebrations scheduled to be held early next year. A crucifix was further handed over to the only surviving church pioneer, which would be passed on from house to house throughout the year.
In his message, Rev. Fr. Guria Nestor dwelt on the message of faith, cooperation and resilience. Also with reference to the recent tragedy which the St. Xavier’s Church faced last year, he encouraged the congregation by asking them not to take it as a punishment but emphasized that, “these are moments when God really wants us to show our faith.” He further extended his prayer support and wished the congregation a Happy Jubilee Year.
Rev. Fr. Neisalhou Carolus, Vicar General, Diocese of Kohima, who graced the occasion as the guest of honour, unveiled the foundation for the new church building.
In his short speech, he said God would help them to rebuild their church and that it is not just the material building outside but also the building of the human community.
The programme was graced by a host of priests including the son of the soil, Rev. Fr. Anthony Rozü, Parish Priest of Lozaphuhu, nuns, and church leaders from several churches from the neighbouring villages as well as representatives from Catholic Association of Nagaland, Nagaland Catholic Women Association, Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement, etc.

Pappusamy, Parish Priest, Razeba, special number by Mothers’ Association, cultural dance by CYA, vote of thanks by Francis Dukru, convener, organizing committee and benediction by Sarhünyi John Krocha, Catechist of St. Xavier’s Church Zhavame.
