Penal discussion on ‘Significance of Rongmei Day and people’s issue’ marked the Rongmei Day which was observed on January 9 at Rongmei Customary Court, Chungaijang, Burma Camp, Dimapur.
The dignitaries present at the programme spoke on the importance of upholding and promoting their history, culture and vision. The discussion had not only stressed on the importance of Rongmei being recognized by the Government of India as a tribe in the year 2012 but also resolved to move forward through renaissance, restoration and rejuvenating the lost culture, history and political involvement.
The Rongmei Day was observed in all Rongmei inhabited areas to remember the deliverance, triumph and the progressive achievement of the people and to identify the people as indigenous people having their own special day set aside to retrospect and introspect the progress and advancement of the people in the field of science, literature, politics, social and economic growth. The day was also observed to honor the past and present patriots and leaders and to uphold the traditional and cultural practices of the people as their way of life.
On this day, the people came with their traditional attires upholding their moral and ethical values of the indigenous people.
