A new church building of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), Walford, Dimapur, was dedicated after a span of 10 years of its construction here Thursday. The church building was dedicated by President NEIU Pr. LF Lyngdoh.
Dedicatory sermon and prayer was pronounced by President NEIU Pr. LF Lyngdoh. The gathering was enthralled through song presented by children SDA church, Dimapur.
Delivering brief account of the church, secretary and treasurer of building committee, Sunny Hungyo, said Seventh Day Adventist Church began with Dr. Wilmot at Namghar hall in the year between 1977 and 1980. He said the church was reinvigorated in 1982 following the home Bible crusade initiated by Peter Keingamba, an evangelist, at Tangnajeilong (now Zeliangrong village/ Dhobinullah). According to Sunny Hungyo, the church gradually grew under the patronage of one Ranjit and his wife Amei, pastor KK Paul and Edwin Ramrar.
It was in 1991 when Dr. KK Angami permitted for temporary erection of church in her plot. Unfortunately, in 1995, the temporary church construction was damaged in a heavy storm. Adding to its woe, the church was also burnt down during the great Dimapur fire on April 21, 1997.
According to Sunny Hungyo, construction of the present church began on October 1, 2005, which was dedicated by Moses A Shimray with the initiation of Edwin Ramrar and Thangsong Chiru.
The welcome address and the vote of thanks was delivered by SDA church elder, E Ramrar. The opening prayer was said by Akham Kamsuan, secretary/ treasurer of Nagaland Region.
