Nagaland chief minister T.R. Zeliang Wednesday expressed regret over the inconvenience cause to the people of the state and for keeping their future under suspense due to latest “unwarranted political development.”
In an address to the citizens of Nagaland, Zeliang said this was the second time within a span of seven months of his leadership that such political upheaval has been created in the state by “some disgruntled NPF elected members” in total disregard of the people’s mandate reposed upon the party on the pretext of demanding for new leadership without valid reason.
Terming the development as “unfortunate”, the chief minister said he as leader with sworn responsibility, never had an intention to keep the people in “utter confusion and dilemma” by indulging in active politicking.
He alleged that some elected members went all out to hijack the mandate of people “unconstitutionally” and brought the normal functioning of the government to a grinding halt.
Zeliang said that as for him, every day was precious while performing his assigned duty as an elected member in the interest of the people and said he believed that all the legislators had the same feeling. He also lamented that “some elected” members in the dissident camp have been trying to influence the people with all “cheap propaganda and psychological game plan through media”, claiming that they had mustered the number to form the government under a new leader.
The chief minister appealed the people and all legislators not to be swayed away by “such lies but believe in truth and remain steadfast” in providing a stable, progressive government and hope to the people. He said he would not resort to any cheap propaganda through media and give false hope to the people just to stay in power.
Zeliang said Wednesday morning, he met the governor with NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie and had explained clearly to him the status of my government. He thanked the governor for his “clear understanding” of the latest political development in the state. He assured that my government was comfortable with the support of good number of legislators from NPF party and DAN alliance.
NLA speaker clarifies
Reacting to the report on the number of members supporting either chief minister T.R. Zeliang or Kaito led dissident group, Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker Chotisu Sazo through his PS has clarified that he has “not gone to any camp nor has he written any letter of support to anyone.”
In a clarification, SP to the speaker Thepuphi Kapuh said it was “unfortunate” that the speaker’s name appeared in the list notwithstanding the fact that he occupies a post which required him to work with all the elected representatives irrespective of party affiliations. He would only decide “as and when it comes to the floor of the House.”
