ANCSU supports AAKK appeal on MNREGA payment

All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has extended its support to the appeal made by Aghunaqa area kukami kuqhakulu (GB association) on December 16, 2014 with regard to the delay in payment of MNREGA within its affected area.
Seeking the intervention of the state chief minister and parliamentary secretary RD, through an open letter, ANCSU general secretary Katho P Awomi stated that with the new academic session was nearing, most of the poor rural parents depended on daily wages of the MNREGA scheme for the admission of their children.
Maintaining that the scheme was meant only for the poor people in rural area, ANCSU said such scheme should not be diverted by the officials of the department.
The union alleged that “poor people’s scheme” was being misused and manipulated illegally through VIP adjustments and by obtaining signatures of the VDB secretaries in actual payment receipt (APR).
Stating that such illegal practice could not be only in case of Aghunqa area but the entire state, ANCSU cautioned that it would make public the written evidence if the department failed to meet the demand and issue clarification within 10 days.
The demand includes immediate release of 91 days wages for 2013-14 and 98 days wages for 2014-15 under BDO Agunaqa area. The department has been asked to clarify and mention (through press) the particulars of VIPs, individuals among poor rural people that needed adjustment from the scheme. It also sought to clarify why the VDB secretaries were made to sign in blank APR since the implementation of the scheme till date.
ANCSU further warned that delay by the department copuld invite severe charges of corruptions as per the law followed by appeal to the central ministry for thorough enquiry and investigation into the scheme.
