Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, JUN 2 (NPN)

The body of 19-year-old Pesha T, a class 11 student who was reported missing from Dimapur on May 24, has been confirmed as found dead by the Assam Police on May 26. This was stated by Mono Shiu, president of the Khiamniungan Students’ Union Dimapur (KSUD).
An FIR was lodged at Diphupar Police Station on May 26 after Pesha was reported missing. Preliminary investigations indicated the possibility that the student may have drowned, with suspicions that the body could have been washed downstream into neighbouring Assam.
Shiu said that despite extensive search efforts involving State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), KSUD volunteers, family members and well wishers—covering the stretch from Dhansiripar river to Thahekhu bridge—no trace of the body was initially found.
On June 2, it was confirmed that the deceased had indeed been found by Assam Police. According to KSUD president, the officer-in-charge of Diphupar Police Station informed the family that the body had been recovered on May 26 and, after remaining unclaimed for 72 hours, was buried by Assam Police on May 29.
With the identity now confirmed, the family has expressed their wish to retrieve the remains and conduct a reburial in Dimapur.
KSUD further stated that family members, along with police officials, would be visiting Diphupar Police Station to seek additional details surrounding the circumstances of Pesha’s death.
“Proper clarity about the circumstances leading to the death can only be ascertained after meeting the concerned authorities,” Shiu added.
