World Environment Day observed across Nagaland

Nagaland on June 5 observed World Environment Day wherein programmes were organised by organizations, education institutes, government departments etc. to mark the day.
YTF: Yorubami Thinkers Forum (YTF) organised tree plantation on June 5 by advocating environmental awareness through people’s participation.  A press note by YTF convenor, Thupukutho Lohe stated that the initiative was supported by the village council and all the frontal organisations. Volunteers including Yorubami Thinkers Forum members, village council members, YSU, MVYYA, mothers association and high school students participated. More than thousand saplings including fruit bearing trees, flowers and ornamental trees were planted in and around the village. The program was chaired by Thupukutho Lohe while Vesolhu Veswuh, VCC and Khoyi Nyekha, a senior forum member delivered short speeches prayer was pronounced by Muluvoyi, OA, CBCC. Forum extended acknowledgement to all the individuals and groups for their material and physical support as well as the departments for contributing saplings.
RSU: Razeba Students’ Union (RSU) in collaboration with Razeba dwellers organised a plantation drive on the occasion of World Environment Day and planted hundreds of rhododendron, plum and alder trees in the Razeba area. Rtd. additional secretary, Vechisalü Nukhu sponsored the Rhododendron saplings with some from the Zelome Students’ Union while Tsupfume Students’ Union contributed 60 plum saplings and Zhavame Students’ Union contributed over 100 alder saplings. Those who participated in the plantation drive included youth bodies, women, students, Dupa Committee, Village Council, etc from Razeba area. 
EC of BBS: Eco club of Bethel Baptist School (EC-BBS) conducted mass social work at old Showuba village junction area and a program was conducted at the school campus where resource person for the occasion, Toshi Yimchunger, SDO (PHED) enlightened the school community on the significance of co-existing with nature in this modernized world.
Cross Wonder Pre-School Chanmari: Cross Wonder Pre-school,’ Chanmari Kohima planted trees in around Old Age Home, Meriema, initiated by the Cross Wonder Church led by pastor Ketou Theiinuo and his wife Adeno.
GPS D-Block Kohima: Government Primary School D-Block Kohima (GPS D-Block Kohima) organised a social work at the school compound and later planted tree saplings in and around the school compound. The tree saplings were provided by the chairman of Ward Education Committee (WEC), Robert Wazha.
OST Tobu Clients: OST Tobu Clients planted trees at all the departmental office premises and around the road side in Tobu town. More than 60 recovering addicts actively participated in the program.
PHED Kiphire district division: PHED Kiphire District Division in collaboration with NEIDA Swach Bharat Mission Kiphire district coordinator Pepenthung Lotha celebrated the World Environment Day at Tethuyo Village. Household waste bins were also distributed to all the households of this village by the PHED and 100 saplings contributed by the Town Union of Tethuyo village were also planted in and around the village.
TUJT: The Traders’ Union Jalukie Town (TUJT) observed World Environment Day cum Swachh Bharat by cleaning the main town area.
CVSU: The Chümoukedima Village Student’s Union (CVSU) organised a poster campaign and  plantation of trees in schools under its jurisdiction.100 saplings gooseberry, sandalwood and rain tree provided by the Horticulture department were planted in four schools under Chümoukedima village jurisdiction. 
DUCCF: Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF) carried out mass social work in all the respective colonies under Dimapur municipal area. All the DUCCF members along with some volunteers cleaned the DC office complex.
GHS Tzudikong: GHS Tzudikong Eco Club organised drawing competition and extempore speech for the students followed by a formal program. All the students and teachers took active participation in cleanliness drive-cum-plantation of trees.
K. Basa village Phek: Khulazu Basa Student’s Union conducted social work in and around the premises of the village and planted nearly 100 additional evergreen plants by the side of the approach road. Around 150 enthusiast members took part in the work like clearing wastes, burning, clearance of 2 kms of approach road and placing dustbins at strategic locations. 
Model Christian College Kohima: Model Christian College Kohima conducted slogan contest was held under the theme “Connection people to nature” at its college premises. 
ANAPTC, Chumukedima: ANAPTC, Chumukedima with the initiative of the commandant Teisovise Metha along with NAPTC officers and personnel carried out a mass tree plantation in the camp area. 
Rainbow Academy Dimapur: Rainbow Academy Dimapur observed the day through speeches, Hindi poem and painting/colouring competition. 
SEN: Save Environment Network (SEN) undertook cleanliness-cum-plantation drive at Urban Haat, Dimapur in collaboration with Agriculture department.
SARSY: The State Agricultural Research Station Yisemyong (SARSY) in collaboration with the Yisemyong Baptist Church planted more than 300 tree saplings around Yisemyong. Church and municipal promised to take care of the saplings.
NTTC: Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre (NTTC), Dimapur also conducted various activities on the occasion. 
Shamator College: Shamator College faculty along with the students went around the town cleaning the street and even planted saplings. 
Pretty Petals School Chukidong: Students of the school planted trees alongside the NH 02.
GPS Nerhe Phezha: The school management committee and Govt Primary School Nerhe Phezha organized tree plantation at school campus on world environment day.
DFD, AASU: Dimapur Forest Division (DFD) in collaboration with Aqahuto Area Students’ Union (AASU) along with the rest of the world observed the World Environment Day, 2017 for the first time, at Government High School (GHS), Aqahuto.  Emphasizing on the theme, ACF, Beizo Suokhrie, in his key note address emphasized urged upon the gathering in improving the environment starting from the individual level. Short speeches were delivered by forest range officer, Vivika Sema, and government high school, Aqahuto headmistress Apokla Longkumer, who also presented scholarship to eight students of the school based on their merit.  AASU president Toka Chishi, lauded DFO Dimapur Forest Division, K.Ihevi Aomi (IFS), for the initiative urged Aqahuto area to be ambassadors to enhance the environment.  Aqahuto area consists of 25 villages with 21 government primary schools, middle schools and one government high school. The program was followed by ceremonial planting and distribution of saplings.  In addition to this programme, Dimapur Forest Division also distributed around 30000 saplings from May onwards to various schools, colleges, student unions, army camps/military stations, government departments and NGOs.
GHSS Bhandari: The NSS unit of GHSS Bhandari organized save environment campaign as a part of celebrating World Environment Day.  The NSS volunteers along with their principal, NSS programme officer and teachers visited offices, shops and residences and distributed eco friendly shopping bags to the public free of cost.  The volunteers explained to the public about the harmful effects of using non-degradable plastic bags and requested them to carry eco friendly degradable bags whenever they go for shopping. They also requested the shop owners to minimize the use of non-degradable plastic bags for packing of materials. The campaign was followed by tree plantation and campus beautification of the school premises by the NSS volunteers. The arrangements for the programme were made by NSS programme officer of the school, Litongpi Ayong.
CHUCHUYIMLANG: With the rest of the world, Chuchuyimlang observed world environment day on June 5 with Deputy Director of school education, S.T. Nokdang Longkumer as chief guest. 
Speaking on the occasion, Nokdang elucidated the term environment as everything surrounding a person and urged the participants to create awareness to conserve and care the environment. In this regard, he appreciated the Chuchuyimlang Village Council (CVC) for maintaining the bio-diversity project in more than two hundred hectares of land. Nokdang also appreciated the council for their efforts in conserving the environment by banning hunting in the village jurisdiction and fishing with chemicals, battery, etc. He also lauded the Land Use Planning Committee (LUPC) of Chuchuyimlang for organizing the programme.  The programme also included planting of tree saplings by the deputy director, chairman of the village council and pastor of the church. Chuchuyimlang Baptist Church distributed 100 tree saplings each to all the wards for planting on the occasion.   
The LUPC of Chuchuyimlang has made a project for a span of three years action plan to plant trees in all the harvested jhum paddy fields. To begin the action plan, LUPC organized the programme clubbing with the programme of world environment day.  Participants of the programme included members of the village council, gaon buras, church leaders, executive members of the Watsu unit, executive members from all the wards of the village, student leaders and social workers.  
NCC: NCC units at Mokokchung, Longleng, Mon, Tuensang and Zunheboto organized various activities such as, planting of saplings by Cadets of GHSS Aboi (Mon), distribution of dust bins created out of oil tins by the NCC cadets of Mary Hill School ZBTO. At Longleng the cadets cleared their college surroundings including the water channels. 
At Tuensang; GHSS TSG, and Loyem Memorial School also planted saplings in and around their schools, At Mokokchung, NCC cadets from FAC, MGHSS, GHSS Dilong & QMHSS attended the workshop conducted at town hall by the ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change and also planted saplings in their schools. 
GHSS Tizit (Mon) conducted drawing competition, lecture by school principal, followed by plantation.The cadets of Fazal Ali College, Mayangnokcha School, GHSS Dilong and QMHSS Mokokchung attended the World Environment Day workshop conducted by ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.
