NPCC reiterates imposition of PR
Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Friday reiterated its demand for imposition of President’s Rule in Nagaland, saying the present government led by Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu has been reduced to “miserable minority”.
NPCC through its media cell said that the governor instead of “indulging in his usual procrastination”, which prolonged the political suspense, should intervene immediately by dismissing the minority government and recommend imposition of President’s Rule in which the NPF would be solely responsible.
The Congress party said that the “unprecedented drama of power struggle” being enacted by the NPF legislators for the past one week should make every sensible Naga people to hang their heads in shame. It stated that Naga people’s patience was worth appreciating since the NPF despite miserably failing on all fronts kept getting voted to power for three consecutive times.
NPCC said it was high time that the public stop expecting NPF to fulfil their tall promises and take them to task for making a mockery of democracy through their constant power struggle and failed promises. “The people of Nagaland will not be fooled by the recent decision of the cabinet that promises stronger, better and cleaner government,” stated NPCC.
The Congress alleged that more than 14 years of blatantly looting the state exchequer and incurring huge deficit of Rs. 1657.87 crore and driving the state backwards cannot be wished away by some sugar coated promise.
Whether be it former chief ministers Neiphiu Rio, TR Zeliang and present chief minister Dr Shürhozelie, NPCC said all three of them including their cabinet and “coterie” were fully responsible for the sordid state of affairs plaguing the state today.
The Congress alleged that the NPF legislators’ sole aim of grabbing power was to abuse the public exchequer, which has been tolerated by the Naga people for too long.
NPCC stated that the misgovernance perpetrated by the NPF for the past 14 years has scorched the state in all aspects.
The patience of the people has been stretched beyond its limits, the NPCC said, adding that the present “pathetic situation” should awaken the people to realize their power to reject the corrupt and visionless party of NPF.
The Congress underlined that the only respite for the people of Nagaland would be through imposition of President’s Rule, which it said would restore some normalcy before fresh assembly election was called.
CNTC demands PR, warns MLAs
Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has fervently appealed to Nagaland Governor, P.B. Acharya to immediately dissolve the present house and impose President’s Rule on the ground that the government has constitutionally failed on every front and also due to total breakdown of constitutional machinery in the state. In a statement through its media cell, CNTC warned that “if the house is not dissolved immediately, the council will not hesitate to come out in the streets to show them the door if they don’t bow out.”
Sending out a strong warning to the legislators, CNTC has asked the legislators to step down “before things turn ugly or face the wrath of the people”. It said that “the present legislators have failed extremely short of people’s aspirations, hope and expectations in every aspect and hence they have no moral right to continue at all or to claim their stake to form any government.”
“When the people of the state have been undergoing uncountable hardships, these bunch of irresponsible people were busy merry-making, partying by congregating in the lavish Kaziranga resorts putting the whole state into ransom,” CNTC stated.
Further hitting out at the MLAs, CNTC said their (MLAs) immature, foolish and careless acts do not deserve them to be called as elected representatives or leaders anymore.
Reiterating that the MLAs should all resign and step down straight away, CNTC said “they have put the entire Naga people to shame and do not deserve to be our leaders” and vowed never to allow the present system to continue under any circumstances
CNTC said “the present legislators do not have even the tiniest of an iota of right to sit on their chairs as they could absolutely do nothing for the people of Nagaland.”
Continuing its tirade against the MLAs of Kaziranga camp, CNTC said “when people are dying and facing countless sufferings, instead of being with the people and shouldering their responsibilities, the legislators shamelessly congregate in the Kaziranga resorts draining people’s money when our roads have almost become like rivers, bridges collapsing, salaries unpaid and a complete failure of the every state machinery in the state.”
In this regard, CNTC said the MLAs have no moral right even to contest the next elections if they know what shame is.
CNTC has demanded the MLAs to step down before they are pulled down by the people, saying they have completely lost the people’s confidence.
“If they don’t listen to the call they will be taught a lesson. There is no need for a floor test anymore as the people’s patience has hit the ceiling already,” CNTC asserted.
MLAs taking people for ride: NTC
Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has vehemently condemned the unbecoming behavior of the elected leaders for taking the people for a ride “beyond reasonable limit.”
NTC media cell reminded the legislators that the primary duty of an elected government was to ensure peace, harmony and security for the citizens of the state. “When the people reposed faith in each elected member of the Assembly, the reciprocity from those members is to sincerely deliver goods to their citizens,” NTC said.
On the contrary, NTC said the current crisis in the NPF led ministry has adversely impacted the citizens of the state. “Not by anti-social elements but the law makers are creating uncertainties and anti-people activities in our land without justifiable reasons,” NTC stated.
It said that the repeated political upheavals were just because of personal greed. Terming it as “unchristian and unethical”, NTC said the creation of opposing camps to up-stage each other for mere personal gains has only brought shame to the people of Nagaland.
While questioning the integrity of the present MLAs, NTC said “they are found to be immature, fragile and unfit to continue occupying honorable chairs.” They are more comfortable to live in their respective camps than honorably deliver goods to the people from their chairs, it added.
In this regard, NTC was of the opinion that the present members have lost interest to govern the state stably. “It is unsafe to allow those disoriented lot to continue handling the affairs of the state”, NTC stated.
The council therefore called upon the concern authority to either restore the parliamentary democracy or to take it to the people for a fresh mandate.
